Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) – The Invisible Deadly Gas

Hydrogen sulfide has killed numerous workers in the oil field and petrochemical industries. Many victims of hydrogen sulfide are unaware of the concentration of the gas around them. Having the proper training on H2S exposure could save your life.

What is hydrogen sulfide?  It is a deadly gas, commonly known in the industry as H2S.

Hydrogen Sulfide Employee Training teaches workers to recognize hydrogen sulfide, appreciate the hazards of hydrogen sulfide, recognize signs and symptoms of exposure, and work safely within exposure limits. The course also covers the use of respirators, confined space entry, hydrogen sulfide monitoring and warning systems and evacuation procedures.

The course “Hydrogen Sulfide – H2S – Safety,” reveals the six action steps to safely working around H2S.  These six steps are:

1.  Contingency plan

2.   Engineering controls

3.   Personal protective equipment

4.   Gas detection equipment

5.   Safe work practices

6.  A rescue plan

As an extremely difficult chemical to work with, gaining knowledge on warning signs and prevention will help to extinguish the threat of the invisible gas.  The Center for Disease Control (CDC) supplies a  National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) reference guide for workers and employers dealing with H2S.
